What Height should a door handle be.jpgTo meet the requirements of BS 8300, lever handles should be positioned on the door at 800mm to 1050 from the floor, 900mm is the preferred height.These requirements are commonly known as DDA compliance (Disability Discrimination Act), more recently this has been replaced with the Equality Act.

Our diagram below sets out the area that the handles can be fitted, to meet the requriements.

Lever Handle Door Position.jpgIn addition to this, BS 8300 compliant doors need the lever handles to have the following dimensions:

  1. Hand grip zone of at least 95mm
  2. Hand grip zone at least 45mm from face of the door
  3. Minimum Lever diameter of 19mm
  4. Lock/latch backset at least 54mm from door edge
